6 METHOD FOR IMPROVING ACCURACY OF SHORT BASELINE SURVEYING

A surveying method which can be used for improving the relative accuracy of short baseline surveying is proposed.
The research results show if the effect of angle measuring error is equal to or less than the effect of range finding error, then the proposed method can improve the relative accuracy of short baseline as much as 4-6 times.

14 ON AUTOMATIC INTERPRETATION OF FOCAL MECHANISMSOLUTIONS WITH COMPUTER

According to the basic principle of seismography and geology,drawing on the experimence of the earthquake predictors and the geologists and taking two microquakes in Badong area as examples,by use of the method of graphic recognition the automatic interpretation of focal mechanism solutions by computer in Visual Basic language is realized.The results show that the conclusion with this method is consistent with that with artificial method,and the former has more advantages such as higher accuracy, higher efficency.

19 ACTIVITY CHARACTERISTICS OF SANBANXI RESERVOIRINDUCED EARTHQUAKES IN GUIZHOU PROVINCE

The seismic activity characteristics of Sanbanxi Reservoir in Guizhou Province before and after water impoundment were analyzed
and the genesis of the seismic activity in Sanbanxi Reservoir was discussed. The results show that there are two types of the seismic activity in the Sanbanxi Reservoir: the reservoirinduced tectonic earthquakes, and the earthquakes caused by the stress unloading on the crustal surface.

24 STUDY ON CHARACTERISTICS OF INTENSITY OF RESERVIOR-INDUCED EARTHQUAKE

By use of the intensity meterials of 27 reservoirinduced earthquakes in the world, the
intensity attenuation laws of reservoirinduced earthquakes were investigated, and it is concluded that,in comparison with tectonic earthquake,
the intensity of reservoirinduced earthquakes at low magnitude was higher than that of the tectonic earthquake.
The large of the magnitude,the smaller of the difference between the intensities. In addition, reservoirinduced earthquakes have more characteristics such as shallower focus,quicker attenuation,and smaller influence area.

28 ON CHARACTERISTICS OF WAVE VELOCITY RATIO IN BADONG AREASINCE SECOND IMPOUNDMENT OF THREE GORGES RESERVOIR

The characteristics of wave velocity ratio of microearthquakes in Badong area since the second impoundment of Three Gorges reservoir are studied. The results show that the wave velocity ratio decreases before an earthquake and increases after the earthquake.The variations of wave velocity ratio reflect the microcrack failure and corrosion of the medium in the focal region caused by water
before and after an earthquake.

32 ON MECHANISMS OF EARTHQUAKES OCCURRED INBADONG ALONGSHORE OF THREE GORGES RESERVOIR

The earthquake location and focal mechanism in the Three Gorges area show that the seismogenic stress of earthquakes occurred in the Badong alongshore, the Three Gorges area is caused by the impoundment of the Three Gorges reservoir. This result also agrees with previous numerical simulation. The gliding of shallow terrane triggered by water loading of the Three Gorges reservoir may be the main mechanism of this earthquakes.

35 CHARACTERISTICS OF Q VALUE AND FOCUS PARAMETERS OF MICRO-EARTHQUAKE SWARM IN LUOQUANHUANG,ZIGUI

The Q value and focus parameters of the microearthquake swarm occured from Sept.22 to Dct.7,2007 in Luoquanhuang,Zigui were calculated with Mereu and Moya algorithm,respectively.The fitting relation between the Q and the frequency was Q(f)=71.7 f 0.808 .Comparison with the low background Q values before and after impondment in the region of Three Gorges Reservoir it indicated that this microearthquake swarm was a common stress adjustment event in the crustal midea.

42 RESEARCH ON ANOMALOUS SEISMICITY BEFORE JIUJIANG-RUICHANG EARTHQUAKE

There were 8 seismic parameters i.e.

earthquake frequencyN(ML≥2.0),b-value,η-value,A(b)-value,Mf-value,Ac-value,C-value and D-value be used to reflect seismic activity characteristics in time, space and magnitude.
Applying the factor analysis method variations of all these parameters since 1980 were studied before the Jiujiang M5.7 earthquake occurred on Nov.26,2005 in Jiangxi province and the synthetic parameter W favalue,major effective factors and certain correlation among these parameters were picked out.It showed that the camulative contribution rate of the four former factors reached to 95.14% totally.
Being the four major effect factors,their contribution rate were 50.53%,23.50%,16.79% and 4.33% respectively.

In this paper we have explained the physical mechanism of gravity reduction in the view of constructing the reference earth model. Through the comparison of different models, the conclusion can be drawn that the inhomogeneous of mass distribution of earth interior should be taken into account and the accuracy

of lateral density should reach 0.001 g/cm 3 when determining a cmlevel geoid.

With OLE Automation, MapInfo can be used as an object type. Combined with the functions of spatial analyses and data management in GIS, the secondary development technique on MapInfo was adopted. This system had the function of statistics, analysis and prediction of landslide.The local comprehensive decision standard of landslide stability was also built. By a friendly manmachine interactive
interface, it was able to offer the stability analysis and the comprehensive estimate of landslide caused by earthquake.It improved the
operability and the transmitting capacity of the spatial geographical information.

71 ANALYSIS ON EFFECT OF SHOCK ABSORPTION OF RIBRATION-ISOLATED OF MULTI-STORY BUILDING BASE

The principle and two calculating models of the baseisolated structure are introduced. Through a project example,
the acceleration and the displacement response of top layer of a building with and without the baseisolated are simultaneously calculated with the Matlab time history analysis program.
The computed results indicate that the baseisolated system used in the multistory building may effectively reduce the earthquake response of the structure.

77 INVESTIGATION ON EARTHQUAKE SCIENCE KNOWLEDGE OF GRADUATES FROM JUNIOR MIDDLE SCHOOL IN WUHAN CITY

In order to find out the level that graduates from junior middle school in Wuhan City mastered the popular knowledge about earthquake science,we designed some examination papers about earthquake knowledge and distributed them to 100 graduates for onsite investigation.The results are as follows:4% of the graduates got “good”,18% got“middle” and 78% got the “bad”.The situation makes us worried,so we should strengthen the eduation about the earthquake knowledge for the middle school students to rise the consciousness of the whole people to take precautions against earthquakes and decrease the disasters.

A new technique of subdividing the Moire fringes to measure the interval between grating lines was adopted in large scale,

151 ANALYSIS OF CURRENT SITUATION OF IRAN SEISMIC NETWORKS

Through the mutual intercourse, we have investigated Iran seismic networks. Iran held four kinds of networks, they are Iranian Seismic Telemetry Network, Iran National Seismic Network, Iran accelerator network and Iran RIS seismograph network.
Because of the lack of broadband seismeter in these networks,
the accuracy of earthquake location isn’t high. Besides, the four kinds of networks are administrated by different organs,thus it limits the earthquake monitering ability of Iran in some way.
