1 HOW TO IDENTIFY EARTHQUAKE PRECURSOR?
Qiu Zehua
The research on earthquake precursors is the foundation of earthquake forecast, but it is composed of a number of careful case studies low. The research on earthquake precursor must be put in advance of the attempt of earthquake forecast. Criterion is needed for the judgment of a possible earthquake precursor. Neither any academic authority nor any prevailing hypothesis can give a terminal conclusion. The cases are not yet as enough for credible statistics. Instead, a natural procedure are adopted to identify the anomalous changes in observation, in which one has to 1) demonstrate a normal background, 2) exclude interfering influences, and 3) show the relevance to the earthquake. The earthquake-relevance plays the key role. Reliable earthquake precursors require accurate observations. The demand of research on earthquake precursor is that a priority in planning, as well as drafting technical standards, future observations aiming at earthquake forecast should be given.

6 EFFECT OF EARTH FLATTENING ON PRECISE CALCULATION OF TIDAL GENERATION FORCE
Hao Hongtao;Li Hui;Liu Ziwei;and Wei Jin;
In the precise calculation of tidal generating force,the effect of earth flattening is a part that must be taken into account. We have computed the magnitude of the effect of earth flattening to the tidal generating force of the moon and the sun, and analyzed the space characters and frequency characters of the effect. In addition, we have carried out harmonic development of the effect of earth flattening on generating tidal potential of the moon by use of the ELP200085 moon ephemeris. The results show that the effect of earth flattening on the tidal generating force is close to 2×10 -11 ms -2, and there are 16 waves with the amplitude bigger than 4×10 -13ms-2 in the developed results.

22 DIFFERENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PARALLEL OBSERVATION DATA RECORDED BY PENDULUMTYPE TILTMETER AT LINFEN SEISMOSTATION
Gao Zhenqiang;Li Yan;Feng Jianqin;Zhang Yanghui;Jin Hongliang;and Li Jun;
Through the analysis of morphological patterns recorded with three kinds of tiltmeters——quartz pendulum, perpendicular pendulum and broadband perpendicular pendulum before several moderate earthquakes in the south of Shanxi, some anomalous reflects in the same observation direction for each instrument are identified before earthquakes. However, these anomalies did not show coincident variation, but show obvious differential features.Under the same station condition, anomaly difference is related to work periods, dynamical response range and recording frequency range of instrument. The slow earthquake phenomenon recorded by broadband perpendicular pendulum tiltmeter before and after Hejin earthquake illustrates the observation advantage of broadband deformation instruments.

27 ENERGY ANALYSIS METHOD BASED ON WAVELET PACKET TRANSFORMATION FOR EXPLOSION VIBRATION SIGNAL
Xu Xueyong;Feng Qian;and Lei Jingya;
The test and analysis of blasting vibration effects play an important part in the assessment of blasting safety and effect, but there are still many inadequacies in the data processing and analysis for the blasting vibration signals collected. On the basis of interpretation of the basic principles of wavelet transform, theoretical explanation of energy analysis method is given and the wavelet packet energy decomposition of an example of blasting vibration signal is carried out. The results show that wavelet packet energy decomposition method can better reveal the partial characteristics in different frequency bands of the signal and lay the theoretical basis for reliable assessment to construction blasting vibration response.

31 EARTHQUAKE RECORDING ABILITY OF BOREHOLE STRAIN METER
Song Mo;Qiu Zehua;and Tang Lei
The earthquake recording ability of borehole strain meter is researched and calculation steps and processing methods are discussed by taking the data of Changping TJtype borehole strain meters as an example. 20 TJtype borehole strain meters that have been installed in mainland China for longer time and with better data archived are selected as the study objects,their earthquake recording ability lines are calculated and show their earthquake response range for event of Ms6.0. This formula not only can quantify a strain meter’s earthquake response ability in location range and magnitude, but also is a new scientific method for assess a seismic instrument. At the same time,on the basis of common understanding that the energy released in the precusory period is supposed to be less than that released by the actual earthquake,this formula is also useful for determining precursor’s location and magnitude range.

We described the selftest accuracy of the relative calibration and the problems about this method. By analyzing the mean, correlation coefficient, we have proposed different methods of the deviation calculated thus it improved the method of the selftest accuracy, so as far as possible objective assessment of quality of the observation can be evaluated.

45 COMPARISON AND ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT METHODS FOR OBSERVING CROSS FAULT DEFORMATION
Li Jie;Feng Zhijun;Wang Qiang;Shen Jian;Yin Haitao;and Cui Juquan
The varying characters of observations and disturbances of the cross fault short leveling, short baseline and MD fault creep testing apparatus at Anqiu seismic station are deseribed,and the relationship of above three methods using correlation analysis method is discussed. The results show that: the short leveling observations are affected by temperature and ground water level, and the observations are negatively correlated to temperature, positively correlated with ground water level. There is a obvious correlation between baseline and temperature, the related coefficient is about 0.95. The level orthogonal, skew and vertical direction observation of MD fault creep testing apparatus are all affected by temperature. In long time, there is a good correlation between the level orthogonal, skew observations and temperature, and the related coefficient is 0.98 and 0.99 respectively, but the correlations are more complex in short time, the changes of observed deformation are ahead of temperature changes. The vertical observations are different correlated with temperature in different seasons. There is a good coherence between short baseline and MD fault level orthogonal observation, we can do some comparative observations in suitable fields. And the short leveling and MD vertical direction observation have no obvious coherence. The above two observation methods are unfit to observe simultaneously when the MD apparatus is installed in semibasement.

57 DISCUSSION ON FEASIBILITY OF BOREHOLE STRAIN OBSERVATION IN SOIL
Qiu Zehua

Tests for observing strain changes in soil with borehole strainmeters are needed in researches of earthquake forecast as well as geodynamics. The observation can be testified if solid earth tides will be clearly recognized. The difference of observation in soil from in rocks lies on the looseness of the medium. Therefore, the strainmeter should be placed significantly deeper in order to solve the problem of permanent deformation. Meanwhile, since soil responds elastically to small dynamic deformation, and the tides of strain are on the order of

10-8, the placement may not be necessarily very deep. Results of theoretic analysis indicate that, although resolution of borehole strainmeter for observation in soil is lower than in rocks, soil deforms much larger than rocks for same stress changes will benefit the observation of tides in soil. Existence of pore liquid will bring about disturbance to borehole strain observation and the sensor should be placed beyond the depth close to water table. It will eventually be checked through practical tests.Whether the present borehole strainmeters can record earth tides.

68 INVESTIGATION ON INTERFERENCE FACTORS OF CROSS-FAULT DEFORMATION OBSERVATION
Lou Guanshou ;Zhou Wei ;Jin Peng ;Liu Wenyi ; and Li Jie
The statistical analysis of disturbance types of cross-fault deformation shows that
the interference factors mainly consist of meteorology, groundwater level, vibration, load fluctuation ,human disturbance and so on. For example, subsidence and rise of monument may be caused by the variation of precipitation and groundwater level or the human disturbance like construction nearby, the height change may be caused by the load fluctuation in one side of fault due to reservoir, variation of temperature and pressure can influence crustal deformation,and there are other interference factors like vibration caused by external force.

However for such a diaphragm calibration device a comparative measurement traceability has not yet made up to date.
