Abstract Three basic characteristics of the coseismic deformation response were analyzed by the Changshu station tube instrument and vertical pendulum which recorded the same earthquake ground tilt response, the results show that: 1) the earthquake delay time and response duration recorded by the two sets of instruments are proportional to the magnitude and the epicenter distance;2)the deformation amplitude of the pipe instrument is proportional to the magnitude, inversely proportional to the epicentral distance; the deformation amplitude of vertically pendulum is related to the magnitude, and has a certain relationship with the epicentral distance.
