CHARACTERISTICS OF STRAIN ENERGY VARIATION FROM GPS DATA IN NORTHWESTERN CHINA

Abstract The strain energy is computed by use of GPS data in the northwest of China during 1999-2001 and 2001-2004 respectively. Through the comparison among strain energy variation, earthquakes occurred in the two GPS measurement periods and fault distribution in the area, it is found that the most earthquakes occurred near main fault other than the area with largest strain energy.
