Abstract The nonlinear least square method is introduced to fit the calibration data sampled in seconds of quartz horizontal pendulum tiltmeter. The scale value of the tiltmeter is obtained by iterative calculation using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. Simulation and filed experimental results indicate that the scale value calculated by nonlinear least square method is consistent with the tiltmeter’s original.
