Abstract Aiming at improving the limitations of existing GPS wave measurement technologies, a GPS wave measurement method using TRACK is presented| specifically, acquiring high-precision vertical displacement of carrier on sea surface via TRACK, then deriving the wave signal from the vertical displacement time series, estimating the signal power spectrum using periodogram method, and figuring out the wave elements. Using the measured data for experimental purposes, the results show that the differences of average wave height and average period are within 2 cm and 0.25 s compared with the results of wave gauge, confirming the feasibility of the proposed method.
