Abstract The existing methods for 3D circular object fitting are introduced and a new method of more concise and faster is put forward to fit 3D circular objects by data conversion and least square adjustment. The defects of previous methods are avoided with this new method. The validity of this method is verified by an example in a subway tunnel shield engineering.
